If you took the time to tune into a couple of last weekend’s games, you’d see that XFL football is no joke. While the idea of the XFL might not sit well with some NFL fans, it’s not like ESPN and ABC are airing your 12-year-old kid’s backyard touch football game. These guys can actually play. Fans will be treated to four more games this week, gamblers are starting to get a better read on these teams, and there is plenty of money to be made.
My point…turn on your damn television and make a little beer money by taking these picks on Saturday:
Houston’s P.J. Walker is off to a scorching hot start. His 62% completion percentage, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception have fueled the XFL’s best offense for the first two weeks of the season. Walker, on two drives, scored more points last week (14) than the Tampa Bay Vipers have put up all year (12). For some reason, oddsmakers really liked Tampa at the start of the year. After two games of essentially zero offensive production, maybe the Vipers can put up some points on Houston, who has given up 41 points through their first two games. However, the Roughnecks have arguably the most potent offense in this league and the Vipers need to worry about outscoring the Tampa Bay Rays before the Roughnecks. Houston takes this game with ease.
MY PICK: HOUSTON ROUGHNECKS -6
With Landry Jones back under center last weekend, the Dallas Renegades’ offense looked much more fluid and their air attack helped take down the Los Angeles Wildcats. The trend in this league seems to be bet on the quarterback, but neither Landry Jones or Seattle QB Brandon Silvers have proved to be dominant enough to win a game on their own. In Week 1, Seattle gave the D.C. Defenders, the favorite to win it all (+350), a run for their money. Seattle showed that while their offense might lack big-name former NFL players, they’re capable of putting up points. Never in my life did I think I would say this, but Landry Jones has to play better if Dallas wants to beat Seattle on the road this weekend. I see that happening.
MY PICK: DALLAS RENEGADES -4.5
