Cardale Jones has a 45% completion percentage, five interceptions, and ZERO touchdowns over the last two weeks. Can I just stop there? If it weren’t for the Houston Roughnecks, the BattleHawks would be the talk of this league. Their prolific offense is led by quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, who leads the XFL in total yards in the 2020 football season and was the recipient of the Week 4 XFL Star of the Week. The Defenders have struggled mightily on offense, while the BattleHawks have allowed a league-best seven touchdowns all season. There is also WAY too much going on in D.C. right now for people to attend an XFL game, so take the home-field advantage out of the equation here. The BattleHawks should be able to win this game by at least a touchdown.
MY PICK: ST. LOUIS BATTLEHAWKS -3.5
The Vipers picked up their first win of the season last weekend in a shutout over the D.C. Defenders. Granted, it is easy to shut out your opponent when their quarterback constantly forgets that he’s supposed to throw to the guys wearing the same jerseys, but the Tampa Bay Vipers looked solid last week. On the other side of the field, the 1-3 Wildcats lost a close game at MetLife Stadium against New York, and their rushing defense has been abysmal (132 allowed YPG). A hot backfield going up against a struggling defensive line won’t work in LA’s favor. Despite promoting third-string quarterback Taylor Cornelius (oof) to a full-time starter, Tampa leads the league in rushing and maybe just needed that one win to get their motor going. While this is going to be a close one, I actually expect the Vipers to pick up their second consecutive win.
MY PICK: TAMPA BAY VIPERS -1
